Fathead minnow embryos at Brixham Environmental Laboratory

Environmental risk assessment often requires an “intelligent testing” approach where existing guideline studies are adapted, or entirely new studies designed, to deal with the specific issues associated with a test substance.

Brixham has a great deal of experience in designing and agreeing these studies with regulatory authorities.  Examples include algal tests in the presence of coloured test materials and sediments, invertebrate studies with volatile substances and long-term studies with degradable substances.  Whatever the problems associated with a test material an appropriate testing strategy can be designed.
