Daphnia magna culture vessels, and Daphnia magna head at Brixham Environmental Laboratory

A comprehensive list of acute and chronic effects tests for worldwide regulatory acceptance are offered. Along with the common freshwater crustacean, Daphnia magna (OECD 202 and OECD 211), a variety of other freshwater and marine species, are commonly used. These include species such as shrimps, copepods, oysters, and sediment dwelling organisms, such as the non-biting midge, Chironomus (OECD 218 and OECD 219) and the oligochaete, Lumbriculus (OECD 225).
